Facelift Q & A

What is a face-lift?

A face-lift is a cosmetic procedure that reduces the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin caused by the natural aging process.

Dr. Freeman uses special surgical tools during treatment to eliminate sagging jowls, hide deep creases, and help you achieve tighter and healthier-looking skin.

Who is a candidate for a face-lift?

Consider a face-lift if you have excess fat or skin on your head or neck, affecting your quality of life. That’s especially true if the issues you’re experiencing result from the natural aging process.

Before making treatment recommendations, Dr. Freeman asks about your goals and concerns. Then, he uses that information to develop a custom care plan that aligns with your needs.

Are there different types of face-lifts?

Dr. Freeman offers several types of face-lifts, including:

Full face-lift

Consider a full face-lift if you’re 50 or older and have sagging cheeks or deep lines around your mouth and nose.

During a full face-lift, Dr. Freeman makes several incisions at strategic locations on your face. Then, he removes excess tissue and tightens your skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles, folds, and creases.

Mid face-lift

If you’re concerned about wrinkles, folds, or other skin imperfections that occur below your eyes and cheeks, consider a mid-face-lift. A mid-face-lift is particularly beneficial for people in their 30s or 40s who want to slow down the natural aging process.

Lower face-lift

Dr. Freeman might recommend a lower face-lift if you have a double chin, sagging jowls, or large nasolabial folds. A lower face-lift is a minimally invasive and outpatient procedure. During treatment, Dr. Freeman makes a series of small incisions along your ears and hairline before removing excess tissue and tightening your skin.

What is recovery like after a face-lift?

After completing your face-lift, Dr. Freeman wraps your face in bandages and moves you to a recovery room for observation. In the days following your procedure, it’s normal to experience bruising, swelling, and redness. Dr. Freeman writes you a prescription for pain medication and explains how to clean your dressings and drain the wounds.

During recovery, you visit Dr. Freeman’s office every few weeks. At each checkup, he monitors your progress to ensure the healing process goes smoothly. Eventually, Dr. Freeman removes your sutures, and the swelling subsides. Your final results provide a more youthful appearance, including smoother skin, jowl correction, and fewer wrinkles and fine lines.
