Although the majority of facial surgery patients are women, an increasing number of men have turned to plastic surgery to look and feel younger. While it was once considered taboo for a man to admit to having work done, the stigma associated with plastic surgery has long been lifted and a larger number of men are not only seeking surgical and non-surgical cosmetic treatments, but a higher number of men are also admitting to the procedures theyve had.

Gone is the fear of being rejected by society. Men have discovered they no longer have to hide the fact that theyve had work done because millions of other people are doing the same. And with the pressures society places on staying young and vigorous, coupled with the innovative advancements in techniques and treatments, its not surprising that the number of male plastic surgery procedures has skyrocketed in the past decade.

According to statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, male plastic surgery has increased by 56 percent since the year 2000 and keeps increasing with each passing year. Texas facial plastic surgeon Dr. John P. Freeman notes that while men tend to prefer more subtle changes with their procedures, the top two plastic surgery procedures for men are actually Rhinoplasty and eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty). The best part about these two procedures is the fact that the results can be as subtle or as dramatic as the patient prefers.

Rhinoplasty (nose job) is one of the most popular plastic surgeries overall. The nose is the focal point in the face and if it is too large or too small, can throw off the overall symmetry and balance in the face. With Rhinoplasty, patients can thin out a crooked bridge, reduce the nose tip, or even correct a deviated septum. The possibilities are endless.

Blepharoplasty is also an excellent choice for male patients who are concerned with obtaining natural results. As we age, our eyelids can become droopy, making us look tired and older than our age. Eyelid surgery removes the excess skin and fat in the eyelids as well as the puffy bags that often appear under the eyes, resulting in a fresh and rejuvenated look for the patient.

And just like women take their plastic surgery inspirations from their favorite celebrities, men are also finding they can relate to several male stars who have admitted to undergoing facial plastic surgery. Among the most famous Hollywood male facial surgery patients are reality TV star and former Olympian Bruce Jenner, who had a facelift and Rhinoplasty surgery, KISS frontman Gene Simmons, who admitted to having a facelift, singer Barry Manilow, who had two facelifts (an upper and lower facelift), and of course, the late King of Pop Michael Jackson, who had two nose jobs and a facial surgery procedure that added a dimple to his chin.

Its not uncommon to find men opting for multiple plastic surgeries these days, especially facelift treatments. Prospective patients can turn to Dr. Freeman with any questions they might have and to determine the ideal procedure that will compliment their natural features and aesthetic goals.
